Heidi’s creative journey began at seven months old, scribbling on magazines with her mother’s lipstick, and it has not stopped since.
At six years old, she was selected for the Beijing Children’s Palace Arts Training Program, where she was classically trained in fine arts. From ages 8 to 15, she competed in the National Art and Calligraphy Competition of China, and was the first place youth champion for six consecutive years.
Her artistic talents were matched by her philanthropic spirit. As a high school junior, Heidi partnered with Phoenix New Media for their 2015 live charity art auction and single handedly raised over $43,000 for children’s cancer treatment in rural China. That same year, she published her first poetry collection, Sixteen.
Equally devoted to writing, Heidi won the 2018 Button Poetry Short Form Contest with her poem how i became an atheist. She followed with her second collection, Turning to Wallpaper, with Central Avenue Publishing. The collection ranked #1 on Amazon in September 2021 and earned nominations for the Pushcart Prize and the Dylan Thomas Prize.
In 2020, Heidi graduated with honors from Hamilton College with a BA in Creative Writing and Fine Arts. She soon merged her lifelong passions of storytelling, writing, visual art, and horror by launching her social media accounts @itsheidiwong. Now known as “The Horror Queen,” she creates viral content for nearly 10 million followers and major studios including Netflix, Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, Lionsgate, and 20th Century Studios.
She earned her MFA in Creative Writing from NYU in 2024 and became the only horror or film creator featured on The Hollywood Reporter’s Creator A-List. In 2025, she made history again as the first and only horror or film creator named on the TIME 100 Creators list and Forbes 30 Under 30.
